Vancouver & Calgary [Day 16, 17 & 18]

Hey all. Its been a couple of days so time for another update. This one is probably going to be a short one though - the last few days have been pretty quiet.

Day 16 in Vancouver - We had the whole day to check out the city. We went in and did a bit of shopping, then went to the seawall. Great views of the city with the mountains behind. We then went out to dinner at the same place as we had the night before because it was so good! Got a 'pitcher' of beer, which is about 1.5 x the size of a regular jug. Rochelle had about 1 glass so it was up to me to finish it off! We then went out to Yuk Yuk's - a comedy club. We had a really good time - was so funny.

Day 17 in Vancouver - We had the morning to muck around before our flight to Calgary in the afternoon. We walked over to Granville Island where there are heaps of markets and stalls. Amazing chocolates and fudge, bakery foods, fresh fruit and meats. We got some scones and muffins and they were sooo good! We then walked back to the hotel, packed up our stuff then headed to the airport.

The flight was quick but amazing. We flew right over the Rockies. There were snow covered mountains as far as you could see! We got into Calgary and were picked up by Terri - Rochelle's sister's mother-in-law. We dropped our gear back at the house then went out for beers and wings with Robbie (Terri's Son)... Canadians are obsessed with Chicken wings for some reason, admittedly they were really good!

Day 18 in Calgary - It is warmer than we expected here. They haven't had snow here for about 2 weeks so the weather is very unusual. Rob (Terri's husband) said he hopes we get some cold so we can experience "real" winter.

We had a very lazy morning! Didn't get up until very late, then watched TV for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon we decided to get out of the house and go for a walk to check the place out. Everywhere is blanketed in snow and ice. You have to be so careful when walking. We saw a frozen lake covered in snow, sports fields covered in like 3 foot of snow, an awesome hill for sliding down (maybe tomorrow). We went and bought a few things at the big shopping complex down the road, then headed home.

Tomorrow we plan to head down town and check out the city. My brother (who also happens to be in the Canada at the moment) is planning to go snowboarding this weekend has told me there may be a free space. Rochelle is not keen so may work out well for me :) Otherwise we have plans to go to an Ice Hockey game on Saturday, and up the mountain Skiing/Snowboarding with Rob on Sunday.

Next week we plan to hire a car and drive up into the Mountains - though Banff, Lake Louise, and maybe up to Jasper. We have been told it is an amazing drive and the scenery is unbelievable.

The following week we may fly over to Montreal in Quebec. Its a French speaking part of Canada so could be interesting.
