Edinburghs Hogmanay [Part II] Getting Loose Mother Goose

The adventure continues. When we last met, our little kiwi adventurers had returned home at 7am from a huge night out. We catch up with them now, just rising from their slumber at Gemma's house...

Neal: "I feel like ****"
Lindy: "Me too"
Neal: "Lets go back to sleep"

And that is exactly what we did, not surfacing until mid-afternoon. When we finally did get up we promptly made our way to the pub. As you can tell we were after a real Scottish experience.

That evening was the torchlight procession. Basically a whole lot of people light these big sticks on fire and wander around Edinburgh. AWESOME! And there was a HUGE amount of people! At one point we got a little bored and decided to play with the fire, as you do... You can check out the results below. I think licking the flame was probably one step too far...

After a bit there was fireworks. Everyone loves fireworks :) And the girls had a go on the Chair-O-Planes ride. (video)

Call us soft, but at that point we decided to call it a night. I was still suffering the effects of the previous night, and we decided it might be a good idea to get a decent nights sleep for Hogmanay (the following day).

And it paid off. We woke the next day as fresh as daisies. So decided to make the most of it and actually check out Edinburgh. We wandered the Royal Mile, checked out the castle, and took a look at the Christmas Markets. I just have to say - Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities. It is just freakin' cool. You can't really explain it. The whole city just has a vibe. I'm sure everyone that has been will agree with me, and everyone who has not been; you need to go!

Gem and her flatmates were hosting a cocktail party that night, so on the way home Lindy and I picked up ingredients for our killer punch. The night kicked off pretty quickly with wayyy too many cocktails. I learned a valuable lesson that evening; cocktails are very dangerous!

At about 9:30pm everyone made their way into the street party. This is where things get a little hazy. I pretty much lost all my friends. But that was cool because I made some new Scottish ones! Biffy Clyro was playing... mind-blowing. Seriously good! Then there was fireworks and Auld Lang Syne... The whole thing was really well done.

Fireworks!

After the street party finished I headed back to Gem's. There weren't many people around so we made our way to another party. It was pretty chilled, we hung out and had some drinks. I finally stumbled home at about 7am. Anyone noticing a trend?

That wraps up part two. Be sure to tune in next time for the cliffhanger; part three!
