Snowboarding Norway [Day Two]

Up and out the door by 9am, and at the top of the mountain by 10:30. We hired our gear and hit the slopes by 11. Conditions were similar to Saturday - again only a couple of runs open.

By midday we started to push the boundaries a bit - trying some rails and a few jumps. Bailed a couple of times in front of a whole lot of people which was fun! On the whole, a frikken awesome day. Our very last run we had a race from top to bottom. We got up a ridiculous amount of speed and almost took a dive a couple of times. The superior sports man won on the day - I will let you guess who that was.

By early evening we had both had enough, so with aching bodies we headed back down the mountain. (On the way passing this INSANE ski jump!) After a quick change at the hotel we headed to the Christmas Markets. The lights were spectacular, and there were lots of interesting stalls. We both got a reindeer burger for dinner!Getting right into the Christmas spirit...

Just across from the Markets was the Nobel Peace Center where Obama received the peace prize just one week before.

And short walk away was the center of town, which contains an ice skating rink and a huge christmas tree. There were christmas lights everywhere, a bit of snow on the ground, it was just like a postcard.

It was so bloody FREEZING that we decided to head back to the warmth of the hotel. After a shower and a bit of packing it was time to head to catch the bus. The bus queue was a little more civilized than the way over, but not by much. When I finally did get on a bus there was no room to sit! Having been snowboarding all day my legs were pretty sore. As the journey is about an hour long, I was thinking... this is not going to be fun. After about 15 minutes of standing in the aisle waiting for something to happen, finally the bus driver announced that another bus was coming. Perfect :) Another 15 minutes waiting around and we were finally on our way.

The trip home was fairly standard. I finally got in the door at 2.30am! About 5 hours later I was up and off to work. So I was a bit of a zombie. Unfortunately for me we had the work Christmas party that night! Not being one to turn down the challenge, I not only attended, but shredded the d-floor. Another late night - getting in after 2am - Tuesday was not fun!

So on the whole, a killer weekend. Oslo is such a cool place, really nice people, 2 days snowboarding... couldn't fault it.

  1. Well, pack it all in and live it up. I plan to hit the slopes soon, but at a much more leisurely pace. Merry Christmas!
